Award Background
2009 is the first year the award is being run and it is anticipated that the award will be granted each year.
Destaintion Alliances have created the Destination Champions Award to celebrate and Honour individuals who have demonstrated their commitment to building the tourism business in their area. People with a true community spirit whose activities, beyond their "day job", have helped others, improved their surrounding and raised the profile of their local area.

Destination Alliances provides a framework for tourism businesses (hotels, restaurants and leisure activities) to generate increased sales by working together to market themselves and cross sell their products and services in their local tourist destination.
Destination Alliances plan to build a national network of Alliances, concentrating on areas that have recently undergone regeneration and where tourist associations and information centres do not exist or have recently closed.
Each alliance will be made up of 54 businesses (18 hotels/guesthouses, 18 restaurants and 18 tourist attractions/activities) and will be managed by a franchisee and a leadership team of three alliance members (preferably one from each business group). Destination Alliances provides the marketing expertise, the experience in building a successful collaboration between tourism businesses and the best in marketing technology.
In celebration of the launch of their rollout plans Destination Alliances would like to honor individuals who demonstrate the same values as Destination Alliances and have therefore launched the Destination Champions Award.
